All Laser LASIK – iLASIK

iLASIK is a breakthrough laser technology used for improved precision, customization, and safety with LASIK eye surgery. LASIK corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. You could be one of the 1.5 million Americans expected to undergo LASIK this year. In fact, LASIK has become the most popular elective surgery in the country.

iLASIK With iDESIGN Refractive Studio 2.0 Technology

The iLASIK procedure is an advanced, personalized, laser vision correction treatment using Wavefront-guided, iDESIGN Refractive Studio 2.0 technology. iLASIK, the procedure our surgeons use for LASIK surgery, describes the specific combination of treatment using the IntraLase IFS Advanced Femtosecond Laser and the VISX STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser with iDesign technology. We are proud to be the first and only New Jersey, iLASIK center to offer our patients iDESIGN Refractive Studio 2.0. This technology measures the eye inside and out, is 25 times more precise than the traditional way of measuring refractive errors and is indicated for monovision LASIK in presbyopic myopic patients. The “i” in iLASIK and iDESIGN stands for innovation and individualization. Click here for further information about iLASIK with iDESIGN Refractive Studio 2.0.

iLASIK STEPS

Step 1 – iDESIGN Refractive Studio 2.0 – Your Personal Vision Profile

Before correcting your vision, your eye doctor will use Wavefront-guided, iDESIGN Refractive Studio 2.0 technology to create a high-definition, 3D visual representation of each eye. With iDESIGN Refractive Studio 2.0, the unique imperfections of the eye are measured 25 times more accurately than the methods that are used for eyeglasses or contacts – detecting details of the eye that were never able to be seen before. Having this kind of information reveals the way that the eyes can process light. This technology produces a fingerprint of your eye for your iLASIK surgeon to personalize your vision correction treatment. With the iDESIGN Refractive Studio 2.0 system, more people may be eligible for LASIK than with past technology — allowing doctors to treat higher levels of astigmatism in people with nearsightedness, a wider range of pupil sizes, and those who are 18 years of age and older.

Step 2 – IntraLase

After creating a vision profile, your eye doctor will make a personalized flap. The flap is created by using a 100% laser approach, called the IntraLase method. This method takes approximately 13 seconds from start to finish; it’s quiet and comfortable and is done in a series of steps. First, the ultra-fast pulses of the IFS Advanced Femtosecond Laser light position microscopic bubbles at a precise depth predetermined by your doctor. Then, the laser light passes harmlessly through your cornea creating rows of these bubbles just beneath your corneal surface as it moves back and forth across your eye in a uniform plane. Finally, the laser stacks bubbles around your corneal diameter to create the edges of your flap. These bubbles are stacked at an angle that is determined by your doctor and are individualized to the way your eye is shaped. Studies have shown that flaps created with the IntraLase method have fewer complications and greater stability than the flaps created with a blade.

IntraLase All-Laser Advantages:

  • Greater flap stability
  • More precise and uniform flap creation
  • More precise flap thickness
  • Larger candidacy potential
  • May experience fewer dry eye symptoms
  • May have faster visual recovery

Step 3 – VISX STAR S4 IR Excimer Laser – Your Personalized Vision Correction

After the LASIK flap has been created and folded back, the VISX STAR laser will gently reshape the cornea using your distinct iDESIGN Refractive Studio 2.0 measurements for correction. Our doctors will then reposition the LASIK flap, completing the iLASIK procedure. The VISX STAR laser has been used to perform the most laser vision correction surgeries with the longest track record for safety and efficacy of all excimer lasers. Most patients can see 20/20 or better, just one month after treatment. Many patients also achieve better vision than they previously had while wearing eyeglasses or contacts.

Step 4 – Enjoy Your Visual Results!

The iLASIK procedure guided by iDESIGN Refractive Studio 2.0 technology produces amazing results! After surgery, these patients reported high satisfaction rates as well as improvements in all areas of vision well being, such as their quality of vision and vision needed for healthy, active lifestyles. Based on an Abbott Medical Optics Inc. study, a clinical evaluation of 493 patients showed the following results only 1 month after treatment:

  • 95% of all nearsighted patients saw 20/20 or better!
  • More than 2/3 of patients achieved better vision in comparison to their vision with glasses
  • 97% of all nearsighted patients were very satisfied or satisfied with their vision
